More than 40 years of expertise & craftsmanship
ABOUT US
D&A Binder was founded in 1976 by David & Adele Binder. From their first premises in Church Street, Marylebone, they began trading Art Deco furniture to dealers from all over the world – the USA, Germany, France, Japan. In 1980, a French dealer requested that they supply shop fittings to Parisian menswear shops Chevignon and Chippie: from that point forward, antique shop fittings became D&A Binder’s main business.
We soon began supplying vintage fittings to high-end menswear shops, both in the UK and overseas. This trade has increased over the last 40 years: by the time we moved to our present home in Holloway Road in 1980, we had already built up a reputation as the country’s leading specialists in antique shop fittings. Since then, we have taken on a number of private customers alongside our retail clients and production companies.
In the late 1990s, Josh joined the family business, eager to create his own designs inspired by the antique pieces along with his interest in woodwork. Influenced by the grandeur of the Victorian and art deco eras, Josh builds bespoke furniture and fittings, specialising particularly in wood design and brass finishings. He takes inspiration from striking antique pieces, then adds his own unique twists to produce designs that combine vintage appeal with a timeless elegance.
Our cabinets and counters are made of the finest oak and mahogany and can be customised to suit your taste. Our most recent collection features brass and includes cabinets, counters, hanging rails, bistro brackets and shelving.
We work with high end stores, film production companies, pop-up shops and interior designers, and take pride in working to suit our client’s needs. All of our stock is available to purchase or rent.
OUR ETHOS
We take care to source only the very finest antiques, traveling the whole country looking for original pieces. These are then hand-restored by our talented team of artisans, who work hard to bring them back to their very best before we pass them on to their new owners.
We are pleased to champion local craftmanship: our skilled and dynamic team of craftsmen and women is based entirely in the UK, either in our workshop in London or our factory in Norfolk where we manufacture cabinets and counters. This not only helps to keep order times to a minimum, but also allows us to monitor the quality of each piece produced, in order to maintain the consistent standard of excellence in which we all take pride.
Keeping operations local also helps us to reduce our environmental impact, a responsibility that we take seriously. We also work hard to use reclaimed materials wherever possible.
